Make-Up Charters at Oregon Inlet Marina
A make-up charter allows individuals to share the cost of a charter fishing boat with others they may not know. If a group does not have enough people to make the trip affordable, a make-up charter provides an excellent solution by pairing them with fellow anglers. Oregon Inlet Fishing Center facilitates these shared trips, ensuring that even small groups or solo fishermen can enjoy a day on the water without the financial burden of booking an entire boat.
To register for a make-up charter, individuals can visit the booking desk or submit an online form. Unfortunately, reservations cannot be made over the phone, through email, or by mail. Remember that while registering for a make-up charter increases the chances of joining a fishing trip, there are no guarantees. Three main factors could prevent a trip from sailing: a lack of participants, boat availability, or bad weather. Once a request has been submitted, one of the reservationists will contact the individual as soon as there are enough people and a boat ready for the trip. Payment information will be collected when a spot is confirmed, and someone will notify them that shove-off is set for the following day.
Make-up charters are only scheduled up to 14 days before the intended trip, and the U.S. Coast Guard mandates that each boat can accommodate a maximum of six people. If an entire party of six cannot be secured, the team will still try to form groups of four or five, as long as everyone agrees to split the cost of the trip equally. It’s important to note that after a make-up charter has been arranged, refunds are only issued if the captain or Oregon Inlet Fishing Center cancels the trip due to unforeseen circumstances such as rider cancellations, bad weather, or mechanical issues with the boat.
Another key aspect of the make-up charters is that individuals cannot choose the boat they’ll be fishing on. Boats are assigned based on a rotational system, and make-up charters are finalized no more than 24 hours before departure. This approach ensures fairness and flexibility for all participants.
